The Last Son of Ahriman (Ahriman #1) by Justin Robinson

The Last Son of Ahriman is a very good book, and I’ll be pleased to continue with the dark adventures of Simon Bell and his cohorts.

Simon Bell is the unprepossessing teenage middle child of the Bell family of mages and, after the advent of a tragedy, finds himself being able to channel the power of a dark planet, Ahriman – the dread star (dwelling as a rogue planet within the Mainyu Nebula known as The Shroud of Ahriman), from whence humanity’s collective nightmares and subconscious horrors find embodiment in living creatures across the depths of space and time.

Also known as the dread star (dwelling as a rogue planet within the Mainyu Nebula known as The Shroud of Ahriman), from whence humanity’s collective nightmares and subconscious horrors find embodiment in living creatures across the depths of space and time.

Simon fell toward the surface without moving.
The surface where the black energy roiled through the infinite seas.
The surface where cults of soulless horrors lurched through mad ceremonies.
The surface where behemoths warred for reasons that could never be remembered.
Ahriman was a planet closer to hell than any human being could imagine. The creatures on the surface, some would call them aliens, others demons were malign, but it was the malignancy of cancer.

From this, he plunges into a path that’ll ultimately be his salvation and that of his friends, loved ones, and the whole planet Earth as he treads a line between the annihilation, insanity, and corruption that is the use of his gift.

End Note

The Last Son of Ahriman is a spectacular blend of Urban Fantasy and surrealistic Lovecraftian horror, with a dusting of noir mystery (set in our current times with a mild YA flavor), that has a splendid and unifying plot that would excel in thrilling fans of both genres.

The Last Son of Ahriman is a very good book, and I’ll be pleased to continue with the dark adventures of Simon Bell and his cohorts. The dread star waxes in the night sky, and no one on Earth is safe…

Recommended.
