Garbed in a mini toga with colors and design to match an already stunning cover, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ graced Ouida House at the event of her latest book launch on Saturday, the 4th of February, 2023.

Released six years after her stunning debut, Stay With Me, A Spell of Good Things is her second published book.

Fans hold high hopes that her latest release will elicit as much emotional reaction as her debut did, and the considerable numbers in attendance at the event spoke volumes regarding this.

The book launch began with a book reading, as the author treated the audience to snippets- a tantalizing taste of A Spell of Good Things.

Ouida House was strained to its seating capacity as avid fans of her work thronged the halls, ears keen and intent on her every word. Of course, plenty of questions were thrown, with various elements of the audience particularly interested in her creative process.

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ has had A Spell of Good Things in the works for about a decade.

“What helped me was that I began working on this novel in 2013, Stay With Me was published in 2017. At that point, I’d already had a few drafts of A Spell of Good Things… I had about 60,000 words.”

A Spell of Good Things brims with themes of mental health, family dynamics, and some surprisingly conspicuous allusions to the upcoming 2023 Nigerian general elections.

A Spell of Good Things is available for purchase at Ouida Books, Amazon, Waterstones, Barnes and Noble, Penguin Random House, and at bookstores near you.
