Movie Review: Breath of Life

Breath of Life is so beautiful! It is not just about the heartwarming story alone but also the beautiful scenery, the dazzling array of colours, and the costumes.

I decided to see Breath of Life out of curiosity. Having seen a couple of reviews online, I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Fam, I became hooked!

Breath of Life is so beautiful! It is not just about the heartwarming story alone but also the beautiful scenery, the dazzling array of colours, and the costumes.

The director, BB Sasore, deserves a big hug!

Synopsis

The story is about destiny, about faith, about courage and love. Rev. Timi Johnson had it all. He had a lucrative career as a priest in the local church, a lot of money he inherited from his parents, a beautiful wife and a cute daughter, and a mansion with servants.

But tragedy struck.

He lost his wife and daughter to local hoodlums. Unable to cope with this huge loss, he lost his faith and his sense of purpose and wanted to unalive himself. He lived his life in loneliness and angst. Isolating himself from everything and everyone. Enter Elijah, an awkward young man with an overreliance on his inhaler who became his house manager… and much more.

Thoughts

Honestly, you need to see this movie.

At first, you will think that the interplay of religion, being a faith-based movie, will make it a bore. But the movie directing is so superb that you will be willing to forgive the undertones.

Although Breath of Life is a faith-based movie, they didn’t try to shove it down our throats. It was done so well that despite your religious orientation, you will be rooting for the church and Elijah. This movie shows us that whether you are a believer or not, God is everything.

It also tells a profound story of love between Elijah and Anna and a story of love between father and son.

Speaking of father and son, I wanted Timi and Elijah so badly to have a father/son moment together. The fact that they didn’t, probably because of the movie’s runtime, broke my heart. Once Elijah went into a coma, I knew Timi was going to give him his lungs. I mean, there was a foreshadowing to that effect. This movie made me bawl uncontrollably like a baby. I don’t think I’m going to get over it in a while.

Starring Wale Ojo, Adedamola Adedoyin, Chimezie Imo, Genoveva Umeh, Sam Dede, Tina Mbah, Bimbo Manuel, Eku Edewor, Sambasa Nzeribe, Ashinoye Michelle Raccah. Amongst many others.

Breath of Life will make you cry, laugh, think, and evaluate yourself in the New Year. It is highly recommended.

Rating: 9 out of 10.
